IT news: Autumn event to explore challenges of the UK and European healthcare IT industry
ACHIEVING greater interoperability between healthcare IT systems and protecting patient data are just two of the topical issues that will be discussed at an industry event later this year.
Organised by the International Quality & Productivity Center (IQPC), Innovations in E-Health & Informatics Europe is being held in London in September and is designed to address the concerns and challenges of he European market, including the NHS.
Speakers at the event will include Peter Russell, head of health informatics at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust; Professor Anthony Brookes of the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester; and Roger Lamb, healthcare sector manager at GS1 UK. Overseas experts will include Bernd Blobel of the eHealth Competence Center at the University Hospital Regensburg in Germany; and Claus Duedal Pedersen, head of the Centre for Clinical Innovation at Odense University Hospital in Denmark.
They will be discussing issues including:
- How to achieve greater interoperability between informatics systems
- Ensuring the safety and security of confidential data
- The necessity of implementing HER/EMR and determining how informatics will react with HER
- Facilitating collaboration between healthcare and technology professionals whether in different departments, at different organisations or in different countries
- Utilising new technologies such as mobile informatics
- Building a business case for informatics adoption
- Complying with standards
A spokesman for the IQPC said: “Healthcare providers across the continent are looking forward to the day when EU-wide e-Health collaboration is a reality, when data can flow freely, yet securely, across institutional and international boundaries, thus increasing efficiency and improving patient outcomes. Healthcare IT personnel are working towards this goal through the careful selection, implementation and improvement of informatics.
“The event later this year is a chance to hear aspirational and instructional case studies from best-of-breed organisations, learn about both mistakes and best practices, meet face-to-face with healthcare IT experts and find solutions you can implement in your own institution.”
