Case Studies

Craigavon GP out of hours

Due to an increase in waiting lists at the GP out of hours surgery, the client required a fast solution to continue the same standard of patient care. Through early engagement and continued collaboration with the client, McAvoy developed a bespoke design for the GP facility, ensuring the layout and flow were suitable for the client’s needs. The building comprises 7 triage rooms, 4 WC’s including an accessible WC, 3 storerooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, a reception/waiting room, a lobby, a staff & admin base, and a boiler room.

University Hospitals Birmingham

McAvoy

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust had an urgent need for ward space due to rising patient numbers and the ongoing impact of Covid 19 at their Good Hope Hospital and Heartlands Hospitals site.

As evidence of how quickly the Trust was able to have its new accommodation operational, it took just 14 weeks from delivery of the first module to handover at Good Hope Hospital and just 18 weeks from delivery of its first module to handover at Heartlands.

Each two storey building benefits from:

  • a 24-bed ward on each floor
  • Ancillary areas
  • Clean/dirty utilities
  • Staff rooms
  • Nurses’ station
  • Reception areas
  • Toilets

Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

McAvoy

McAvoy was awarded the £15m contract for the offsite construction of a new wing at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

This highly complex project on a live hospital site has pushed the boundaries of offsite construction. McAvoy integrated the new wing with the design of the existing hospital and used offsite construction to deliver the building to a very short programme, achieving exceptional value for money and built to the Trust’s stringent quality standards.

McAvoy developed a hybrid solution which incorporated both offsite and in-situ building methods and maximised fit-out in the factory to enhance quality and reduce disruption to staff and patients.
