Morgan Sindall Construction has completed work on a new £25m Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).
It was delivered on behalf of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by Morgan Sindall Construction’s Eastern Counties business.
The scheme was procured through the NHS Shared Business Services (SBS) framework.
Alister Broadberry, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Eastern Counties, said: “Delivering this new, state-of-the-art facility is an incredible accomplishment for us, and we can’t wait to see the impact of the important work that can take place as a result of the efforts of our team, NNUH, and the supply chain.”

International architectural practice NBBJ was responsible for the building’s design.
David Lewis, Partner and Healthcare Lead at NBBJ said: “The building is designed with patients and staff at the forefront, providing a simple-to-navigate, welcoming, and bright environment. This will truly serve as a community hub.”
The new 40,000 sqft CDC, located on the Norwich Research Park, comprises five MRI machines, four CT scanners, two ultrasound rooms, and two X-ray machines.
Constructed using a steel frame with a brick façade to complement the existing hospital estate, the building has been designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding campus, including the nearby Quadram Institute, also designed by NBBJ.

A key feature of the project was Morgan Sindall’s commitment to sustainability through its Intelligent Solutions approach.
Carbon reduction initiatives were embedded throughout the design and build stages, utilising the contractor’s digital carbon reduction tool, CarboniCa.
This proactive strategy achieved a total carbon saving of 786.9 tonnes CO₂e across the building’s lifecycle — the equivalent of heating 291 UK homes for a year.
Internally, the CDC prioritises patient experience with open, naturally lit spaces and clear wayfinding systems to support ease of navigation.

The simple, elegant design contributes to a welcoming and accessible environment for patients and staff alike.
The facility was officially opened in early May (May 8) by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, The Lady Dannatt MBE, who is also patron of the N&N Hospitals Charity.
The event included a tour of the patient-centred unit and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
The new CDC will provide the people of Norfolk and Waveney with faster access to essential diagnostic services, including X-ray, MRI, ultrasound, and CT imaging.
It is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes by shortening the time between referral, diagnosis, and commencement of treatment.
