Two HD processing systems and full range of scopes and key technologies installed in endoscopy department

Aquilant Endoscopy has secured a contract with the Royal Gwent Hospital, based in Newport, to supply the endoscopy department with two complete Fujifilm endoscopy systems, worth £350,000, which will enable the clinicians to perform more diagnostic and surgical procedures.

The injection of state-of-the-art equipment at the Welsh district hospital - provided by the UK's exclusive distributor of Fujifilm endoscopy technology - means doctors and experienced professionals will be provided with the very latest in GI imaging equipment.

As well as the two HD processing systems, the Royal Gwent installation includes a full range of scopes and key technologies, such as the 590 colo-assist colonoscope and the SureScope 3Di imager, which will allow the user group to undertake advanced and varied procedures.

Andrew Dawe, general manager of Aquilant Endoscopy, said: "Our mission is to supply endoscopy specialists with the latest advanced technology and so we're delighted to be supporting Royal Gwent Hospital in providing the best flexible endoscopy equipment. Our service enables clinicians to have access to state-of-the-art equipment, which plays an important role in improving accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments if cancer is detected at an early stage."

Dr Miles Allison, clinical director for gastroenterology at the hospital, added: "The endoscopists at the Royal Gwent undertook a rigorous evaluation exercise of all four commonly-used brands of flexible endoscope before our tender went to Aquilant. The high-definition optical characteristics of the Fujifilm endoscopes were found to be outstanding, and the handling characteristics compare favourably with the best endoscopes on the market. The representatives from Aquilant have been very helpful for our service development and in the training with our new equipment."
