P+HS Architects has begun construction on the Bentley development that will bring two GP practices together

P+HS Architects has broken ground on a new £7m primary care centre in Bentley, which will bring together two existing GP practices, Don Valley Healthcare and the Ransome Practice, under one roof.

“A new state-of-the-art primary care centre will ensure our communities are serviced by the best possible, efficient healthcare which meets their needs,” said Anthony Fitzgerald, Executive Place Director for NHS South Yorkshire.

The three-story, 1215 sqm facility will be located on the former Bentley Community Library site.

It will feature a red-brick front, restrained architecture and large full-height splayed windows.

The building will be designed to feature a shared reception that anchors both GP  practices.

Support spaces, such as clean and dirty utilities, storage, and toilets, will be also shared to boost efficiency and reduce duplication.

The waiting areas of the facility will feature windows that provide natural light and strong views to external green spaces.

The design will also feature a display of local historical artefacts and a discrete changing places facility.

The site will be designed with BREEAM Excellence and will be future-proofed.

The development of the primary care building was funded by NHS England, and the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) will cover the operational costs once the centre opens.

P+HS Architects has collaborated with Sewell Advisory, who will handle the project management, and Bridge Pound, who will handle the structural, civil and geotechnical management.

The facility is expected to open in spring 2026.

P+HS Architects have also been working in collaboration with Robertson Construction North East to develop the £30m Sir Bobby Robson Institute at Freeman Hospital.

Once completed, the hospital will unify the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre with blood-disorder research teams under one three-storey roof.

Construction for the Sir Bobby Robson Institute is due to start in spring 2026 with completion slated for 2028.
