Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has submitted plans to modernise the ageing hospital facility

The Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has submitted plans to redevelop Wycombe Hospital.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce these plans. The Wycombe Hospital site has been in dire need of redevelopment,” said Raghuv Bhasin, incoming CEO at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

Bhasin explained this will enable them to move critical services out of the tower block and into a purpose-built environment to provide Buckinghamshire residents with best in-class facilities.

The proposal calls for a six-storey building, welcoming spaces for patients and staff, cardiology, stroke, theatres and critical care units. The new building would be located at the hospital’s Car Park B site and will replace ageing accommodation.

The existing tower block at Wycombe Hospital has been flagged as having significant structural deficiencies and high maintenance burden, prompting the need for a long-term solution.

The Trust is currently working closely with Buckinghamshire Council and engaging with the public to ensure the development meets community needs.

The redevelopment is supported by £20m investment after the Trust found that the existing buildings were unfit for purpose, with over £260m in overdue maintenance

An in-person public engagement session was held on 14 October and the project team was available to answer questions from the local community.

Back in September, the hospital was also approved for a refurbishment to update bedrooms, a CT scanner area, and HVAC and MEP equipment. The refurbishment planning application was developed along with IKON Architecture.

Construction for the full redevelopment is expected to commence in early 2026, with an endoscopy department scheduled to open in spring 2027.
