Tilbury Douglas, on behalf of NHS Property Services, has delivered the £16m Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre to replace the former ageing community hospital

The new Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre will open its doors to patients on Thursday 30 April, marking the completion of a £16m NHS development.

Construction of the scheme was carried out by Tilbury Douglas on behalf of NHS Property Services, with the project forming part of a wider drive to shift care out of acute hospital settings and into more integrated community-based facilities.

The facility, located in Hammersmith Fields near the existing health centre, replaces the ageing Trowbridge Community Hospital.

The centre brings together same-day urgent care, outpatient clinics, diagnostics such as X-ray, and community services including physiotherapy, podiatry, audiology and mental health support.

The opening follows a multi-year build programme, with construction reaching completion in late 2025 ahead of handover and service migration into early 2026.

The facility uses the latest green technology, with solar panels and heat pumps, supporting the NHS net zero goals.

Once opened, the Trowbridge Integrated Care Center will be one of the country’s first completely self-sufficient NHS buildings.

As part of the phased transition, services previously delivered at Trowbridge Community Hospital, including the minor injury unit and outpatient maternity care, will now be relocated to the Integrated Care Centre, which has been designed to enable closer working between NHS and community care teams.

The development is expected to act as a central hub for health services in the town, supporting more joined-up pathways between urgent care, diagnostics and ongoing treatment in a single location.

NHS partners say the centre will allow a more streamlined model of care delivery, with patients able to access multiple services in one visit, reducing pressure on acute hospitals and improving local access to treatment.

“We are very pleased to have enabled the delivery of this super integrated care centre, which we know will enable our NHS colleagues, across different specialisms, to work more collaboratively and deliver excellent care,” said Andrew Strange, Estates Strategy Lead for NHS Property Services in the South.
