Boston United Stadium to be transformed into £24.9m Community Diagnostic Centre

The United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has begun demolishing the former York Street stadium to bring faster local access to vital diagnostic services

Work has started to clear the long-unused York Street football ground in Boston and create a £24.9m Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in south Lincolnshire.

United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has commenced demolition and site preparation.

The centre will be delivered by MTX Contracts, a specialist healthcare contractor known for using modern methods of construction to fast-track community diagnostic centres across the NHS.

Once completed, the facility will include MRI and CT scanners, X-ray, ultrasound rooms, consultation and audiology spaces, along with dedicated parking for patients and mobile diagnostic units.

“The feedback we’ve had from patients about our community diagnostic centres in Grantham, Lincoln and Skegness has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope to replicate this in Boston,” said Daren Fradgley, LCHG Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Integration Officer.

The new CDC will manage around 350 patient visits daily and will reduce pressure on local hospitals by allowing patients to quickly access diagnostics.

Similar centres have already been established in Grantham, Lincoln and Skegness, helping to move routine diagnostic tests out of busy hospital sites and into community settings.

The facility is expected to open in spring 2027, transforming both the former football ground and healthcare access in the area.

The redevelopment follows earlier plans approved by Boston Borough Council to transform the former stadium into the CDC.
