Campbell Court: A first of its kind for Leeds
Construction has completed on the bespoke residential care home in Yeadon - an ambitious project jointly delivered by Leeds City Council and NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB). The facility is the first in the city to provide purpose-built accommodation for adults with severe learning disabilities and complex autism needs, addressing a longstanding gap in local provision.
For many individuals, accessing the right support has previously meant moving into residential care far from family and community. This new development seeks to change that. Comprising six high quality, self-contained flats - each with its own garden - the project has been meticulously designed to support residents to live safely, comfortably, and as independently as possible.
Kier’s approach centred on creating a truly homely environment while integrating the robust infrastructure required for 24-hour specialist care. Every element of the facility has been created to enable residents to live safely and independently, allowing staff to reduce their presence over time while remaining able to observe and step in when needed. The building has been constructed to be both secure and robust, with lock‑back doors, tamper‑resistant furniture and fittings, and fully enclosed gardens featuring rubberised paths and inclusive outdoor features including swings.
The project is the result of a powerful partnership between the council, NHS West Yorkshire ICB, NHS England, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT). For Kier, leading the construction is a privilege - and a responsibility.

The Brook: Award-nominated specialist care in Devonare in Devon
Earlier this year, Kier completed The Brook at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish - a specialist mental health facility designed for individuals with a learning disability and/or autistic people whose needs cannot be met safely within a mainstream acute hospital setting. The scheme has now been shortlisted in the Best Specialist Design category at the upcoming Healthcare Design Awards.
At The Brook, designing for neurodiversity was paramount. Working closely with Devon Partnership NHS Trust and Grainge Architects, Kier helped create a flexible, therapeutic environment rooted in an understanding that sensory needs vary widely among individuals.
Ten self-contained patient flats sit at the heart of the facility, each featuring a private garden - promoting calm, independence, and personal space. Curved, wide circulation routes, quiet nooks, external corridors for discreet movement, and access to landscaped outdoor areas all contribute to an environment that reduces stress and supports wellbeing.
Complementary spaces, including therapy rooms, communal lounges, visitor areas, and staff facilities, are arranged around courtyards to maintain visual openness and natural light throughout the building.

A consistent commitment to specialist care excellence
Across both projects, Kier’s expertise in delivering complex, person-centred healthcare environments shines through. Whether creating bespoke community-based residential care in Leeds or innovative clinical spaces in Devon, Kier continues to shape facilities where people with highly individual needs can feel safe, supported, and respected as well as places where they can thrive.
