Floyd Slaski Architects has completed a post-occupancy review of the 860 sqm Lewisham Surgical Centre, completed by John Sisk & Sons earlier this year

Designed by Floyd Slaski Architects, a new surgical centre at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has opened to patients.

Located at University Hospital Lewisham, the centre has been developed to deliver high-volume, low-complexity ear, nose and throat (ENT) procedures for patients across south east London.

Under a ProCure23 appointment, the project progressed to completion under contractor John Sisk & Sons, who broke ground on the project in 2024.

The facility has been constructed on the foundations of the Victorian-era hospital buildings that previously occupied the site, reusing existing footings, low walls and undercroft structures.

The development includes two operating theatres, recovery areas and supporting clinical accommodation across an 860 sqm footprint.

Floyd Slaski Architects recently completed a post-occupancy site visit and highlighted the building’s daylight-filled theatres and recovery areas.

The firm received positive feedback from clinical users and redevelopment teams following the opening earlier this year.

"Since demolition of the Victorian hospital buildings 20 years ago, the site has been teasing onlookers with its development potential, but it's a tricky, largely landlocked and irregularly shaped site that has seen various abandoned schemes over the years,” said Hal Jones, Managing Director at Floyd Slaski Architects.

Jones said that working with SISK, the project team tackled the tight site and restricted access areas with precision and care.

The Trust expects the facility to support more than 5,000 procedures annually.

The project forms part of wider NHS efforts to tackle elective care backlogs, with ENT remaining one of the largest speciality waiting lists nationally.
